So when should you start test preparation?
It depends on your child’s current level. We have prepared students from 1 to 12+ months before the exam.
It is not uncommon for many students to prepare more than 12 months ahead of the exam. It is a test after all and one that is high stakes.
The scholarship exam is the hardest hurdle to pass and preparing will mean that your child will be less stressed on the day from seeing a whole bunch of questions they’ve never seen before.
So what should your child be studying to prepare for the test and what is the test format?
The test varies and some schools set their own test. The information below about test preparation is provided for general information at the Year 7 entry level and your test may differ. It’s important to confirm that actual components of the test with your school.

A commitment to Mercy Values is at the heart of an OLMC education. Mercy Scholarships are a means of making a Mercy education, with its tradition of academic and musical excellence, available to more young women.
For 2020, OLMC will offer Mercy Scholarships for selected students entering Year 7.
Three types of Mercy Scholarships will be awarded.
During the registration process you are able to nominate the scholarship/s you wish to be considered for.
Mercy Scholarship for Academic Excellence
Mercy Scholarship for Music Excellence
Mercy Scholarship for Alumnae
Please note: All candidates MUST sit the Academic Scholarship examination, even if only applying for Music and Alumnae.
Mercy Scholarships provide full or part remission of tuition fees. All other costs, including resource fees, cocurricular activities and uniforms, are required to be met in full by the families. The College’s Enrolment Application Fee and Enrolment Acceptance Fee are also payable upon acceptance of a Mercy Scholarship.
Following the receipt of test results by the College and consideration of additional information provided, applicants and their families may be invited to attend an interview and, for applicants for Mercy Scholarships for Music Excellence, an audition.
Applications close:Friday, 15 February 2019. No late applications will be considered.
Examination date: Saturday, 2 March 2019
On Examination Day: Your daughter will need to arrive at the College by 8.20am. Please enter the College through Gate 3 on Ross Street where you will be met by College Staff.
We suggest that you avoid arriving before 8.20am as an early arrival would create a long wait.
Finishing Time: The testing will conclude at approximately 12.30pm and your daughter can be collected from outside the Edith Angel Hall.
What to bring:
Two blue or black pens
Bottle of water
Morning Tea (for recess break)
What NOT to bring:
Ruler
Mathematical instruments of any kind
Mobile Phone
Programmable watches (including Apple or smart watches)
Photographic or other image/data capturing devices
Books or any papers
Please note: Medical conditions (including food allergies) and taking medications during the examination
Not all staff at the test venue/s are trained in first aid or the administration of life-saving medication such as Epipens, Anapens, asthma inhalers or diabetes devices, so parents must disclose information about medical conditions and medication to the School and Academic Assessment Services well before the examination. Parents may be required to wait near the test venue/s during the examination to administer medication if necessary. Please detail any medical conditions in the medical issues question in the online application.
UNPAIDapplicants will not be allowed to sit the examination.
