Writing Study Plans for Creative and Discussion/Argumentative Writing - 21 Weeks

If you’re studying for an exam that has a timed writing component - these are the study plans for you.  There are 2 separate study plans - 1 for creative writing and 1 for discussion and argumentative style writing.  While historically the NSW Selective School Placement Test has tested creative writing (they have 1 writing piece for 20 minutes) they may test you on discussion or argumentative writing as they’ve release two sample writing prompts.  One is an image that is more likely to call on a creative piece being written and the other is the statement

If you had just one wish to make the world a better place, what would you wish for?

Which really calls for a pseudo-argumentative style writing - it’s about putting your opinion forth and justifying them with relation to the question at hand.

The study plan I’ve used here, in combination with tutoring and also because the student I tutored was already an A student resulted in her writing an A+ grade essay - which you can check it outhere.

Remember the study plan draws upon existing sources:

  • Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie - fantastic book that you can model from.
  • Practice Papers written by ACER provided on the NSW Department of Education’s website here.
  • Exam Success’ Course for Creative Writing and Discussion/Argumentative Writing at www.examsuccess.com.au (available to purchase from mid-late August 2014)
