It’s no surprise that good English written expression is a valuable skill for your child now and in the future. Good English writing skills can provide your child with unlimited opportunities!
But… sometimes, it’s not easy to get children to write – they may find it hard to come up with an idea and in school, there is little opportunity or time to really think about writing more deeply. In many cases, children only really skim the surface of writing.
And it shows - the 2019 NAPLAN results show that the writing skills of year 7 and 9 students have gone backwards over the past decade! (The Guardian, 2019). Writing is an important skill where its foundation is built in earlier years and doing so will help your child better transition to high school and beyond.
To help your child build a strong foundation in creative writing, Exam Success has developed an Online Creative Writing Program where your child will develop their creative writing skills – these skills are extremely useful in preparing for many competitive exams and for Year 12.
As a registered provider for the Creative Kids program, you can redeem your $100 voucher with us for this program. If you don’t have a voucher, please visit service.nsw.gov.au.
In this program, your child will work on developing 1 short creative piece over 5 tutor-led sessions to improve it dramatically through real editing (not just proofreading) and developing an awareness of audience. In between tutor sessions, your child can access online writing masterclass videos to help them further build their skills and our homework (1.5 hours) is completely optional (great for children who do not like homework!)
This program will help your child develop:
It’s important to note that the program doesn’t aim to churn out essay after essay, but rather, by focusing on completing one short essay and dedicating over 5 hours of time in re-working and editing their piece, children work creatively. They learn to think more deeply about writing, not only as a communication tool for themselves, but as a medium of communication between themselves and the world.
An additional benefit is that with online learning you get undisrupted & safe learning. With the outbreak of the global pandemic COVID-19, it’s essential to keep your family as safe as possible. With our program, your child learns from the safety and comfort of your home. No risky virus exposure or disrupted classes. All your child needs to join is reliable internet, a set of headphones with a microphone and a computer.
The dates of the program activity in 2021 and the set themes to be explored can be found below. The duration of each session is 1 hour, so each program has a total of 5 tutoring hours (1 hour each session x 5 sessions).

* Due to the way sessions are organised, any no shows are forfeited sessions. We reserve the right to cancel classes if there is a reason to and in such a case, a full refund would be offered.
Once you’ve been confirmed for the program, we’ll send through information that will make onboarding a breeze. Essentially, you and your child will link up with our tutor and other children in the class virtually through an app (it’s very easy to use, kind of like Skype or Facetime).
In these small online classes of only 5 students, your child will work on creating their writing piece based on a theme. Through the sessions, your tutor will help your child hone their writing – improving their piece each time so that at the end of the 5 sessions, your child will have created and edited an excellent piece. In between each of the sessions, you child will also be provided with masterclass videos (via our online dashboard) and homework sheets to help them hone their writing craft (and homework is optional).
At the end of the 5 weeks, you’ll also have the opportunity to have your child’s work published in an anthology (planned to be published in 2022) as a lovely memento of the amazing work your child has created.
Check through the timetable to find the class you wish to join to see if there is any availability. If available, purchase your spot here – it is $172.50 for the program of 5 tutor-led sessions and one a successful purchase, we’ll be in touch to confirm your spot.
A week before your scheduled first class, we’ll be in touch with an email that will onboard you for your sessions.
